Written in 1931, it is one of the most important and well-known works of Federico García Lorca and is inspired by a real event that happened in the south of Spain in 1928. The argument is as follows: two young men, The Bride and the Groom, agree on their marriage. On the day of the wedding, the Bride returns to see her old boyfriend, Leonardo, whom she has always been in love with. Leonardo, now married and with a son, belongs to the Felix family who now have to face the family of the Bridegroom for having killed his father and brother. The Bride and Leonardo then flee the wedding day carried by their passion. The Bridegroom goes out to look for them and when he finds them, he fights with Leonardo and they both die. This is a portrait of the Spanish rural society of the early Twentieth Century.
